N Cal Track Clinic

Northern California Track Clinic, Spring 2008

Todd Nash will be teaching a track & field clinic for 1 week in 5 sites in Northern California in the spring of 2008, the week of March 31 - April 4, 2008.  The class will teach two different events each day for the first 4 days, then the last day will have a casual "meet" style format, giving the participants the opportunity to experience a track & field meet.  Participants will learn the basic skills in 8 different events including javelin, discus, shot put, high jump, long jump, sprinting, hurdles, and relays.  Parent help will be needed the last day to make the meet flow quickly - the more parents we have helping, the more the kids will get to try!

SEE BELOW FOR PICTURES!

This clinic will be a great opportunity for your children to learn all the events in track & field, find their strengths, and try those events in a "user friendly" setting.  It is open to children ages 5 - 18, and all children will be challenged at their skill level.  We will include some strength work and conditioning with the clinic each day.  Also, students do not need to be home schooled to participate, but it will take place during the school day at several of the sites.

Registrations are available on the website right now.  Click on REGISTER on the HOME page to register and select your class site.

Cost:  The fee for the class will be $90 per student.  There are no discounts for multiple siblings.  The fee must be paid prior to the start of the class.  If you have a charter school paying for the class, you still must pay the fee which will be a refundable deposit if the charter school pays.  Your checks are deposited after the clinic starts.

Requirements:  Wear tennis shoes, athletic shorts or sweatpants, and a T-shirt.   Proper tennis shoes are critical!  No jeans or casual clothes please.  All equipment will be provided for the class, but bring your own water bottles.

SHOES:  Parents, please do not bring your kids to classes with Sandals, slip on shoes, or barefoot.  Without proper shoes, children may be forced to sit out the class.  Many of the activities in class could injure your child's foot without adequate support and protection.  Lace up tennis shoes that are tied tightly (not baggy, untied, and loose) are the only proper footwear.  Slip on shoes are not good - they fly off when exerting minimal effort in sports, and force the athlete to develop BAD HABITS of pushing the toes down into the shoe to hold it on.  Help your child excel, and do not get them slip on shoes for sports!  Sandals are never appropriate for sports - they do not provide support or protection.  A ball hitting the open, exposed toes of a student in sandals would likely break their toes.  Please bring them to class in LACE UP TENNIS SHOES TIED SECURELY.

To sign up, go to the registration page linked to the next page.  THIS IS NOT AN INTEREST LIST!  If you register, you are expected to pay and attend the clinic!  Clinics are planned, schedules set, and money is spent based on registration numbers, so please do not register unless you will be paying for and attending the class.  Also make sure you read the cancellation policy on the CONDUCT AND POLICIES page, and read the same page to understand the behavior expectations for your child.  You may contact Todd Nash at California Athletics with questions, but please register through the website.  To see where the classes will be held and get directions to the parks, click on the link to the left titled DIRECTIONS.  DO NOT plan to just show up to a class without registering!  If not enough students register, a class could cancel, and you will not know it is cancelled if you are not registered!  This is a rare case, and you do not need to check with me before the class starts to confirm it.  If there is a change to the schedule, you will be notified if you are registered on this website.

All contact and information will be via email, so make sure you include your email in the registration, and you will be emailed a confirmation just before we start the clinic (the weekend before we start).

Greer Park, Thomas Guide p. 791, D-5.  Take 101 to the Oregon Expressway South/West exit, turn left immediately on Bayshore Rd, the park is on the right in 1 block.  Take the first entrance on the right and meet at the baseball field on the right toward the end of the parking lot.  Sunset is at 7:32 PM this week, so we will still finish plenty early in the daylight hours!

At all sites, look for a White, Toyota Previa.  Todd is 6' 4", 230 lbs, wearing a blue T-shirt with a shield "crest" logo on the front, and wearing a blue hat.  Easy to spot!  Send your kids to come and help unload!
