Track & Field Meet

If you have not registered yet and would still like to join us, please do come to the track and register on site.

California Athletics will host a home school track & field meet at Calvin Christian School in Escondido on Friday, May 15, 2009.  The meet will start at 3:30 PM and should finish by 5:30 PM.  Some of the younger athletes will be finished earlier.  Children from ages 6 to 18 are welcome to compete, and no experience or training is needed.  It will be a friendly environment to learn how a meet is conducted.  It is open to students from all school backgrounds including home schooled students, private school, charter school, or public school.  Please feel free to register and compete, regardless of your school background.

Please plan to arrive by 2:30 to warm up and get your briefing from Coach Nash at 3:15, with the first events starting at 3:30 sharp.  Events will be announced as they are to be conducted.

The following events will be conducted by age group:

Bantam: Age 8 & under on Sept 1, 2008 (beginning of this school year)

100, Long Jump, and Mini-Javelin.  All athletes in this age group will compete in all 3 of these events, and only in these events.

Elementary: Age 11 & under on Sept 1, 2008 (beginning of this school year):

100, Long Jump, Shot Put (6 lb), Mini-Javelin (300 gram), high jump.  You may choose 3 events from this list.

Junior Varsity (JV): Age 14 & under on Sept 1, 2008 (beginning of this school year):

100, 400, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put (4K for all), Discus (1K for all), Javelin (600 gram Olympic javelin for all).  You may compete in 4 of these events.  Choose them the day of the meet.

Varsity: Age 18 & under on Sept 1, 2007 (beginning of this school year):

100, 400, 1600, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put (4K for girls, 12 lb for boys), Discus (1K for girls, 1.6K for boys), Javelin (600 gram Olympic javelin for girls, 800 gram Olympic javelin for boys).  You may compete in 4 of these events.  Choose them the day of the meet.

Location: The meet will be held at the track at Calvin Christian School Escondido.  The school address is 2000 N Broadway, Escondido, CA.  Please do a map-quest on this address to get the best directions from your home.  When arriving, please park across the street in the parking lot on the south side of the high school, near the church.  Walk NORTH across the street toward the high school, go to the far right (east) side of the school & gym, then walk behind the school to the track.  Register when arriving at the track.

Times: The meet start time will be announced when the date is selected.

Cost: It will be a $10 entry fee per athlete, regardless of how many events they compete in.  Athletes are limited to 3 events for Bantam and Elementary athletes, and 4 events for Jr. High and Varsity.  Please pay in cash (have exact change) when you arrive.  Registration will be at a tent just inside the track area.  You must pay before competing.  Be prepared to check in at your event when it is called on the bullhorn.

Awards: Medals will be awarded to the first place finisher in each event.  Some events may be run together if there is less than a full field, but will be awarded separately.

Directions: Take your freeways to the intersection of I-15 and Hwy 78 in Escondido, go East on 78 to the first stoplight, turn left (north) on Broadway, drive about 1 mile, Calvin will be on your right side just after passing Escondido High School.  Turn right in front of the school, park in the lot on your right or on the street, the track is behind the high school.  Address: 2000 N Broadway, Escondido.

When you arrive, go to the check in table to pay your $10 entry fee and get your sticker that has your events and name.  You cannot compete without that sticker - it shows that you have paid.

You may wear spikes for the meet.  If you are on the jumping surfaces, 1/4" is the max.  The track is a dirt track, so you may wear 1/2" spikes on the track, but make sure you do not wear these on the runways for the jumps.  If you will do both running and jumping events, you should wear 1/4" spikes for both.  Shot and Discus are concrete circles, and the Javelin will be contested in the grass, so you may wear spikes or cleats for the javelin.
