NORTHERN CALIFORNIA BASKETBALL CLINIC Call Todd on his cell (760-458-9753) if you are interested in any of these class sites - some may be cancelled. The week of October 12-16, 2009 Todd will teach a Basketball Clinic in 3 sites in the Bay area. The clinic will meet each day, Monday - Friday, for 1 1/2 hours. It will cover all of the major skills in competitive basketball, teaching the skills, and teaching drills to develop these skills. We will also play a wide variety of small group games that develop skills and basketball playing. The schedule of locations will be as follows, meeting each day of the week of October 12-16 each day Monday - Friday for 1 1/2 hours.
9:00-10:30 Concord 11:00-12:30 Pleasanton 1:30-3:00 San Jose 4:00-5:30 Fremont
Students will learn the basic skills involved in basketball, the rules, and basic techniques of the game. Most of the class time will be spent on working on skills in ball handling, passing, dribbling, shooting, defensive positioning and drills, and basic team tactics. These skills will be taught and developed with drills and a small amount of controlled scrimmaging in the last couple classes to learn offensive strategy. We will not set up teams and play full games - this is not a competitive team or league, but a chance to learn the game and develop skills to prepare students for competitive leagues that start in the winter.
The basketball class is a GREAT class for your children to learn athletic skills while having fun. Every student will have a ball in their hand the whole class, working on some skill. This is a great class for younger kids to learn motor skills, beginning conditioning, hand eye coordination, and team play. The class is suitable for those who have never played basketball or any other sport. It is also a good skill refresher and builder for those who have played basketball. Many of your kids who play league ball never get time to work on fundamental skills with their teams, so this class will help them develop their skills.
Basketballs and shorter basketball goals will be provided, and the classes will be conducted at the basketball court at an outdoor park in your area. Students need only wear athletic clothing, tennis shoes, and bring a water bottle. Three sizes of basketballs are provided, each one appropriate to your child's age and size. You should plan to purchase a basketball for your children to practice after the clinic is complete. Class size will be limited and spaces given to the first enrollees with fees paid. Feel free to email or call with questions, but please do not register for this class unless you intend to attend the class, and please read the website in detail to see if your questions are answered herein.

Cost: The fee for the class will be $90 per student. There are no discounts for multiple siblings. The fee must be paid prior to the start of the class. Please mail your check for $90 after registering on this website. Your check will not be deposited until the class has started. If your check for $90 is not received prior to Todd departing for N Cal on the Saturday prior, you will need to give him a check, even if you have mailed one. Your mailed check will be shredded when he returns to San Diego. Requirements: Wear tennis shoes, athletic shorts or sweatpants, and a T-shirt. Bring water. Kneepads are not required, but if you have them, they are helpful to wear. It is not necessary to purchase kneepads for this class. All balls and equipment will be provided for the class. SHOES: Parents, please do not bring your kids to classes with Sandals, slip on shoes, or barefoot. Without proper shoes, children may be forced to sit out the class. Many of the activities in class could injure your child's foot without adequate support and protection. Lace up tennis shoes that are tied snugly (not baggy, untied, and loose) are the only proper footwear. Slip on shoes are not good - they fly off when exerting minimal effort in sports, and force the athlete to develop BAD HABITS of pushing the toes down into the shoe to hold it on. Help your child excel, and do not get them slip on shoes for sports! Sandals are never appropriate for sports - they do not provide support or protection. A ball hitting the open, exposed toes of a student in sandals would likely break their toes. Please bring them to class in LACE UP TENNIS SHOES TIED SECURELY. To sign up, go to the registration page by clicking the back button a couple times. If you register, you are expected to pay and attend the class! Also make sure you read the cancellation policy on the CONDUCT AND POLICIES page, and read the same page to understand the behavior expectations for your child. You may contact Todd Nash at California Athletics with questions, but please register through the website. To see where the classes will be held and get directions to the parks, click on the link to the left titled DIRECTIONS. Please do not plan to just show up to a class without registering! If not enough students register, a class could cancel, and you will not know it is cancelled if you are not registered! This is a rare case, and you do not need to check with me before the class starts to confirm it. If there is a change to the schedule, you will be emailed if you are registered on this website. If you have questions or need to contact Todd, email him at CalAthletics@sbcglobal.net or call him on his cell at (760) 458-9753. Todd will be unable to take calls until July 23, so email if you have questions between now and then. Call Todd on his cell (760-458-9753) if you are interested in any of these class sites - some may be cancelled.
