In the winter of 2009 (Jan-Feb, 2009), Todd Nash will again teach this class. The information below is about the class taught in Jan-Feb of 2007 for your information. The next football/volleyball class will follow the same format. _________________________________________________________________________ Volleyball & Football Class, Winter 2007 The class for the winter of 2007 (Jan 15 - Mar 8, 2007) will be volleyball and football. (Please note, the start date of the class has been delayed 1 week to start on January 15!) We will spend the first 4 weeks on volleyball. All students will learn the 3 basic hits in volleyball and practice them with a partner away from the net for the first 1-2 weeks. After practicing the hitting for a couple weeks, nets will be set up, and students will practice hitting over the net. Shorter nets (about 5' tall) will be set up for the younger players, and regulation nets of 7' 3" will be set up for the older players. If the class is big enough and the ages of the students are conducive, we will play games. The second portion of the class will be football. There will be 4 different sizes of footballs for students to learn basic passing, carrying, punting, and place-kicking with the ball. We will teach some basic rules and play some flag football in a learning designed game format. This will be the first time we have offered football in any CAHS class - make sure you bring your kids out for this exciting opportunity! Cost: The fee for the class will be $85 per student. There are no discounts for multiple siblings. The fee must be paid prior to the start of the class. If you have a charter school paying for the class, you still must pay the fee which will be refundable deposit if the charter school pays. Your checks are deposited after the class starts. The only exception to this is for Julian Charter School if there is a PO issued prior to the start of the class. For Julian Charter School only, if your charter school will pay for the class at the beginning of the class and a PO is issued PRIOR TO the start of class, you may start without the deposit. Requirements: Wear tennis shoes, athletic shorts or sweatpants, and a T-shirt. It is highly recommended that your child wear a long sleeve t-shirt or long sleeve sweatshirt for the volleyball portion. Passing the ball (bumping as some call it) will hurt on the bare arms in cold weather, and some cloth on the arm will help this a lot. Do not have your kids wear a jacket with padding - this will prevent them from hitting the ball well. No jeans or casual clothes please. Bring water. Cleats are not required for the football portion, but may be worn if the student owns cleats. It is not necessary to purchase cleats for this class. All balls and equipment will be provided for the class. SHOES: Parents, please do not bring your kids to classes with Sandals, slip on shoes, or barefoot. Without proper shoes, children may be forced to sit out the class. Many of the activities in class could injure your child's foot without adequate support and protection. Lace up tennis shoes that are tied tightly (not baggy, untied, and loose) are the only proper footwear. Slip on shoes are not good - they fly off when exerting minimal effort in sports, and force the athlete to develop BAD HABITS of pushing the toes down into the shoe to hold it on. Help your child excel, and do not get them slip on shoes for sports! Sandals are never appropriate for sports - they do not provide support or protection. A ball hitting the open, exposed toes of a student in sandals would likely break their toes. Please bring them to class in LACE UP TENNIS SHOES TIED SECURELY. To sign up, go to the registration page linked to the next page. THIS IS NOT AN INTEREST LIST! If you register, you are expected to pay and attend the class! Classes are planned, schedules set, and money is spent based on registration numbers, so do not register unless you will be paying for and attending the class. Also make sure you read the cancellation policy on the CONDUCT AND POLICIES page, and read the same page to understand the behavior expectations for your child. You may contact Todd Nash at California Athletics with questions, but please register through the website. To see where the classes will be held and get directions to the parks, click on the link to the left titled DIRECTIONS. DO NOT plan to just show up to a class without registering! If not enough students register, a class could cancel, and you will not know it is cancelled if you are not registered! This is a rare case, and you do not need to check with me before the class starts to confirm it. If there is a change to the schedule, you will be notified if you are registered on this website. Schedule: Starting the week of January 15, 2007: Mondays: 9:00-10:00 Glendale 10:50-11:50 Pomona (Note the time change from previous classes) 12:45-1:45 Mission Viejo 1 (Note the time change)

The registration page is now ready to take registrations for this class. Please click on REGISTER above and sign up as soon as possible. Then mail your class payment to the address given on the registration page. If you are with a charter school school which will pay for your class, contact your ES, EF, consultant, or teacher and have a purchase order or voucher issued for the class. All parents who will pay for the class with charter school funds must send a deposit check for the amount of the class. Your check will be deposited into the bank and will be refunded when your charter school pays for the class. Have the purchase order to California Athletics prior to the class. It is the parent's responsibility to ensure this is done. California Athletics cannot pursue individual purchase orders with charter schools - they do not allow me to request purchase orders. Without a deposit check no student may start the class. If no purchase order is received from the charter school, the deposit check will be used to pay the fee for the class. Even with a PO issued, your deposit check will be deposited into the bank, and you will be refunded when your charter school pays CAHS after the class is complete. |
